Dangerous Dining XI 145, Maladroits 146 for 7

Having narrowly avoided a team pummelling by a 20 stone hairy groundsman in a wife beater, Boozer won the toss in typical style and put Dangerous Dining into bat. Bealo opened up the bowling with ferocious line and length but on a good batting wicket and with his eye quickly in, Ash Retter made a confident 50 before being caught by JC on the last ball before drinks. The runs continued their upward trajectory as Jamo’s first over went for 18, but there was a definite tipping point as Jamo’s moon balls turned into yorkers and he notched up end to end maidens (first in Maladroit history). Bowes also bowled well but was left ridiculed as a near collision in the field with Brenner resulted in a dropped catch and Bowes stinking of dog shit. Late in the game, the skill was truly eclipsed by Amelia Sydenham who nailed 2 wickets for 14 runs (2 more than her brother and 10 years his junior). A desperate middle and tail end collapse left Dangerous Dining with only 146 all out.

Bolstered by a Michelin star esque tea, JC and Lock strode into bat, but the outlook turned gloomy as Lock and Gumbo at 2 and 3 were dismissed quickly. The oppo’s bowling remained very tight but JC’s partnership with Mark Boycott (49 and 29 respectively) steadied the ship and with Bealo knocking a quick 26, the end was in sight. Bowes came in and went out quickly as a bit of skullduggery from the oppo secured his run out (although karma was restored later that night). Meanwhile, Mark was left watching from the boundary with sore arms from his heavy bat, as Amelia exceeded her brother’s strike rate. Shortly after, the game was won at 147 for 7 with overs to spare.
